G6: Team Force upsets Maricas, 48 - 33

Report by Jun Rana

Marcus Chiu and Team Force reserved its best game in the first round of the playoffs and Maricas had one of its off day as Force pulled a 48-33 stunner over Maricas. The win put Team Force in the second round of the playoffs. Maricas suffered its first loss in the tournament which relegated them to the losers bracket in the next round of the playoffs Maricas having the second best record in the elimination round qualified as the top loser in the next round of the 8 team playoff.

Both teams combined for one of the lowest scoring first half In Palaro history, with Force leading Maricas 14-11 at halftime. However, Marcus Chiu cut loose in the second half scoring 24 of his 28 game high point to secure the win for Force. Chiu did it with a combination of penetrating lay ups and jump shots. With 11 minutes remaining, Chiu put the dagger in the heart of Maricas with a triple to lead an 18-8 salvo to put Force ahead 32-19.

BJ Advento leads Maricas with 15 points but clearly missed the scoring supports of reliable Kenneth Savella and El Persons, who scored only 2 points each.

upps...and force really won it!!!perhaps the Maricas did not put up a strong defense on this game...force i notice have twin towers in wong and alvarez whoever they will be facing next will be in trouble, keys to force advancing will be:
1) control of the boards both O and D
2) limit treys of opponents by meeting opposing SG,PG up high result :Low scores, to your advantage use bench for defense
3)screen plays for chui, mainly/talag for mismatch/bacal old and young for short and long jumps
4)Maltman for attacking the basket and one-on-one plays with smaller guards/forwards, do not let maltman shoot treys or longs
5) low post plays to Wong with alvarez waiting for rebound and tip ins if missed
Follow this formula and you can stay close and possibly win...use timeouts wisely to rest the twin towers...also maltman buy your players water and gatorade not whiskey and vodka...hic...
Maricas...well this well-coached team most likely was not coached during this game...Maricas employs swarming defense leading to low scores notedly this is not existent in this game...Maricas to get back the following are key:
1) assign a point guard you dont have this, what you have are shooting guards who are catch and shoot types...the PG will carry and make things happen the closest player is Ulit...make Ulit carry the ball and execute.
2) advento dribbles a lot, lessen his dribbling and this will lead to less energy spent and more of low post plays outsmarting bigger players and putting them in foul trouble
3) create space for savella, setters, persons
4) if all else fails make alday do low post moves and go strong to the basket either fishing for foul or getting two points...
5) rest of bench use for swarming defense...intiende?!
gee i'm sober...

force beating maricas is no way an upset. everyone knows that the divisons were purposely set up to separate the talent. if any team from the force division were on maricas side they too would have went 5 and 0..with no disrespect to maricas b/c they were placed there and just played basketball. good game to the force and maricas will probably exit after next round.

well, im not a fan of either teams. they're both not spectacular at playing basketball anyway. When Dragons play against force, force can change their name to fail. and maricas, you have no chance against excel-phi. Sorry to say that. but that's the truth.

It's still better to play and play "unspectacular basketball" than act like you're better than the players when all you do is sit in front of your computer and type lame remarks.
