Excel-Phi pounces on Elkton Blazers, 84-35

Newly crowned FACAA champions, Dynamic Excel-Phi, continue their winning streak by pouncing on neophyte team Meridian Primary Care (aka Elkton Blazers). Their convincing win positions Excel-Phi as the leader of the pack after round one.

The highly touted Meridian Primary Care team was a bust in opening day tip-offs, with only a fraction of their team showing up. Eventually, with a depleted team and not meeting the required number of players to suit up, the Blazers were ceremonially defaulted by the second half of the game.

But this unfortunate turn of event for the Elktonites, did not bother the powerhouse that is Excel-Phi, as they continued to play the hapless Blazers to the hilt. The result, a formidable pouncing that mimmicks the Pacquiao-Hatton boxing match on pay-per-view.

The Blazer's loss puts them at the bottom of the pack, in both the overall ladder board and the Americana Division. Will they claw and climb their way back next week? We'll see.

Ironically, Excel-Phi's win puts them at the top of both the league's ladder score board and the Americano Division rankings, with a whopping 240 percentage points, almost 70 points more than 2nd ranked, GK Warriors.

Will Excel-Phi rule this year's league?

Looks like we're in for a great season!

Sorry, but the tone of this article does not sit well with me. I'm neither a fan of Excel or Elkton.

You can check it out if you want, but in basic tournament rules, there is what you call the "(Anti)Slaughter Rule". Please look it up. If this is an honorable league, then the officials should not allow such an embarrassment to a fellow team. According to your President's message the objective is to somehow foster good camaraderie and friendships, then why allow this types of games.

Kung talo na..let it be. But to embarass a team is just not a good example. it's like kicking someone who is already down.

To me, it doesn't make Excel a better team to get a 50 point margin. A point is enough to win with dignity.

'nuff said, furiosly..

it's no one's fault if the other team chooses not to be competitive and in a league like this.

you can't just judge the character of a team or a league because of the outcome of one game.

if you can't handle the heat, i suggest you get out of the kitchen and be in solace with your garden (if you have one).

no sense in crying over spilt milk.

i thought this blog is being moderated, how come we get comments that leave a bad taste in the mouth, like furiously yours.

hey, PHI and Excel played an honorable game and I was there to attest to it. if you cannot accept that there will always be a losing team in a competition then i suggest you go to the mountain and live a hermits life.

Go PHI-Excel!!!!!!!! Beat all of them at will...

i believe a very well respected captain of another very good team has already addressed this type of issue last year when they were accused of playing what others would call a weaker team with the very same intensity as they would a stronger team. He said it best so please refer to that article and think about why it would not be necessary for u toaccuse the league or teams like GK or ExcelPHI of being unsportsmanlike.

This is coach Mike of Dynamic Excel-PHI: Here we go again barely a week into the tournament and we are already upset how DYNAMIC (EXCEL-PHI) won..give me a break!!! You know what is disrespectful is to play sub-par level basketball; maybe we should've had Excel tie one hand behind their backs and play on their knee's...now that's being disrespectful...but for a team which has played only once as a unit and test different combination's on the floor, and see what potential a team has, that's just coaching and preparation for the next team...
It is unsportsmanlike not play a team to your fullest potential...
It is unsportsmanlike not to allow a team not to play, even if they did not have 5 players to start and almost finish a game...
What about GK???? are they unsportsmanlike as well???
the blew the dragons out of the FREAKIN gym too....why don't we comment on how bad we should feel for the Dragons, who got their butts kicked, after driving 2hours...maybe GK should've spotted them 30pts, just to be FAIR and SPORTSMANLIKE!!!
I am all for SPORTSMANSHIP, but do not expect a team to play below its standards of basketball...do not expect a team just to give in because of a weaker opponent...TRUE SPORTSMANSHIP is accepting losing whichever way it comes, by a point or by 50points...We have had a fair share of disappointments and blow outs; we have participated long enough in PAAD to know what goes around in this league, and "TAE" happens...before blogging remember: ANG PIKON LAGI TALO!!! If you are a true sportsman, be real and forget this ANONYMOUS junk.....

who are these lancione brothers anyway? are they really that good? even if they have showed up last saturay, what good will it do adding 2 players to the team.the only towering player i saw was the one who came in late.i think even if these brothers came, blazers would have still been pounced by the mighty dynamics.prove me wrong blazers...

Guys,

Hold on lang kayo... No one from PHI and Blazzers players are complaining. I think both of these teams showed big hearts inside the ring. For Excel/PHI they did what they have to do and that is to play….. and play hard. For Blazzers…. I salute you for never stop playing. The scores difference never put you down even exhaustion never did.

Webmaster ….. you did a good job again. This kind of articles tickles our imaginations…. pushed us into our limit (I promise that I will never get involve with this). The good thing is I can't wait for the next articles and the next game.

See you Saturday.

To Coach Mike and Herb (of GK):

This is my response to your flimsy excuse:

Girls Basketball Coach Fired After 100-0 Win
Monday, January 26, 2009 | FoxNews.com

DALLAS, TX — The coach of a Texas high school basketball team that beat another team 100-0 was fired Sunday, the same day he sent an e-mail to a newspaper saying he will not apologize "for a wide-margin victory when my girls played with honor and integrity."

Kyle Queal, the headmaster for Covenant School, said in The Dallas Morning News online edition that he could not answer if the firing was a direct result of coach Micah Grimes' e-mail disagreeing with administrators who called the blowout "shameful."

Queal did not immediately answer phone messages or e-mail from The Associated Press.

On its Web site last week, Covenant, a private Christian school, posted a statement regretting the outcome of its Jan. 13 shutout win over Dallas Academy. "It is shameful and an embarrassment that this happened. This clearly does not reflect a Christlike and honorable approach to competition," said the statement, signed by Queal and board chair Todd Doshier.

Grimes, who has been criticized for letting the game get so far out of hand, made it clear in the e-mail Sunday to the newspaper that he does not agree with his school's assessment.

"In response to the statement posted on The Covenant School Web site, I do not agree with the apology or the notion that the Covenant School girls basketball team should feel embarrassed or ashamed," Grimes wrote in the e-mail, according to the newspaper. "We played the game as it was meant to be played. My values and my beliefs would not allow me to run up the score on any opponent, and it will not allow me to apologize for a wide-margin victory when my girls played with honor and integrity."

A phone number for Grimes could not be located by The Associated Press. The Dallas Morning News said Grimes did not respond to their repeated e-mail requests for a telephone interview.

There was no answer at a number listed for Doshier.

A parent who attended the game said Covenant continued to make 3-pointers — even in the fourth quarter. She praised the Covenant players but said spectators and an assistant coach were cheering wildly as their team edged closer to 100 points.

Dallas Academy has eight girls on its varsity team and about 20 girls in its high school. It is winless over the last four seasons. The academy boasts of its small class sizes and specializes in teaching students struggling with "learning differences," such as short attention spans or dyslexia.

There is no mercy rule in girls basketball that shortens the game or permits the clock to continue running when scores become one-sided. There is, however, "a golden rule" that should have applied in this contest, Edd Burleson, the director of the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools, said last week. Both schools are members of this association, which oversees private school athletics in Texas.

The story has received national attention, and the Dallas Academy team has been recognized for refusing to give up during the lopsided contest.

furious, thats is soooooo different though. Those girls played a very aggressive defense throughout the game to the very last second. they stopped playing D midway the 2nd half, they barely scored 20pts??!!?? its bastketball man, plus if you havent realized the league is using a Qpts system which means every point counts. gk scored more than phi but yet phi is number 1 which shows you that it does matter in this league especially when the #1 and #2 spot in the playoffs has some immunity in the first round or something like that.

let it go furious, you are really making me furious now lol.

Anonymous said...

furious must be a player or fan from blazers or dragons. as for that article the team that scored 0 points was handicapped so are you comparing dragons or blazers to being handicapped when compared to dynamic or gk. if you cant handle the competition dont play. paad is great for getting good ball players to represent their league!!

COACH MIKE: boy, Furious you sure have a lot of time on your hands to do all this research....the paad league has a component where a Q-system format comes into effect...which means you can drop a slot or 2 or even 3 during positioning week, and play a harder team...
anyway, i'm killing this blog today, and done defending my team....it is what it is...if you don't like, well i guess that's your opinion...
thanks.....

playing very good and aggressive basketball like excel did last Saturday was just the usual thing happened in PBA and NBA. Excel team just did their job, what needs to be done and experimented for future opponents. they just want to show and to prove that they can be a champion in this year league, it's an honor to be a back to back champion(Facaa and Paad 2009). Congratulations to you mike and the rest of the team,.....exit realty will be ready for you in the playoffs round,........just joking,....maybe next year.
